Far Away
I haven’t written in awhile and when I was looking for inspiration, I went to one of the closest people to me. He was recently sent a video and as we watched it together from our respective homes we were taken back. Far Away by Marsha Ambrosius is a song that talks about missing a friend. When you listen to the words, or read them you believe that it is about a relationship gone wrong. You can relate to it, and you may even envision your last relationship that ended. Or maybe you remember the relationship where you thought you found, “The One” only to find out that “The One” had other ones. I started to remember my first love, and the way he made me smile. We fussed, laughed, but throughout everything I knew that he was a phone call away. And when we decided to finally end things it hurt because no matter what we went through once it was truly over, it didn’t matter.

After all these images went through my head I clicked back to the video and decided that I was going to observe the direction the Director decided to take. Instead of the regular intimate relationship setting the singer was the best friend to a male homosexual couple. You were able to see what they went through in today’s society. After being assaulted by a number of men, one of the men decided that he could no longer endure the life here and took sleeping pills and ended his life. This was an unexpected twist and something that hit home. Just a few moments earlier I was reminiscing about a coworker of mine that committed suicide because she did not see a way out. I understand what it is like to feel hopeless. When you lose your sense of hope, all is lost. Hope is what gets you through the storms so that you can get to the other side. I’ve been to a place where all I learned in God and Jesus went out the window and I felt it would be better for everyone if I weren’t here anymore. Then there was a brief thought that passed where I remembered. I remembered everything I accomplished, all the laughs I had, and all the things I overcame without even thinking. I beat all the odds. I rose above whatever everyone said about me, and even though I smiled it took a lot of pain to do it. As I went over my life, I found hope for a future.

I believe that it is very important to remember your importance, but to also remind people of their importance. You never know when ‘Good Morning’ or a smile can change the direction of someone’s day. I learned that it is very important to tell people how special they are to you because tomorrow isn’t promised, and I never want anyone to think they aren’t important if they are in my life. So if you are close or far away, I remember you and I love you. Be able to say the same things to those in your life.
